Great Yarmouth International Association

In partnership with Norfolk Black History Month

Who we are

Great Yarmouth International Association (GYIA) is a group of friends who come together to celebrate their contrasting cultural heritage, whilst at the same time promoting and sharing their diverse history. A Community Champions Grant helped to establish what became the GYIA and in November 2002 it was formally constituted. The GYIA brings people together to break their isolation and to promote good relationships within the wider community.

Our Aims

GYIA aims to bring together the different Black Minority groups (BME) of Great Yarmouth and promote good relations within the wider community through social and cultural events.

  • To integrate with the whole community
  • To enjoy the differences of our cultures
  • To expand ethnic minority networks within the local community
  • To provide events that enable people who normally feel excluded, to participate in local community activities
  • To promote, through these activities, networking between ethnic minority groups and various agencies, including statutory and voluntary services, local businesses and the general population.
  • To enjoy our customs, food and traditions
