Norfolk African Community Association (NACA) is a voluntary organisation, one more component of multi-ethnic and multicultural society in Britain at large and Norfolk in particular. It was founded by some members of the African community in Norwich out of their own experiences of life in the eastern county during the years who espouse the need to promote and sustain the African heritage among its members in Norfolk.
Aims and objectives
- To foster social cohesion amongst the scattered African persons or groups in Norfolk and thus mitigate any feelings or effects in isolation, social exclusion or racial abuse.
- To provide a forum for association, consultation and mutual support particularly for members who are unemployed.
- To promote personal development for self-reliance through activities that impart the appropriate knowledge and skills such as organic gardening, conservation science and other vocations that foster self-employment.
- To sustain the African heritage through some social activities within the context of life in Britain, in collaboration with organisations with similar or complimentary aims.
- NACA also supports the campaign for sustainable development and protection of the environment as well as advocacy of social justice and individual liberties.
Current Projects
Organic Gardening and Nature Conservation programme
- Students visit the allotment
Location: Bluebell South Model Allotments in Norwich off the Avenues. The Avenues is the road that joins Colman Road to Bluebell Road. If you are heading in the direction to the University of East Anglia, you pass the George Borrow Road and the entrance is on your left. NACA’s developing plots 211, 212, 212A, 390A and 240.
If you would like to learn how to grow your own vegetables, soft fruits and flowers, recycling organic waste (composting), meet other people and participate in a healthy outdoor work, then come along and join us.
- NACA volunteers with the salad harvest
One of the team leaders will be on site from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM every day during March to the end of September. Volunteers meet on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. During the national Black History Month (October), the project will be open for the public.
New Volunteers are always welcome.

Norwich International Cultural Integration (NICI)
- Picnic organised by NICI
NICI organises monthly cross-cultural events to encourage understanding of the diverse cultures and traditions. This is one example where NACA members are making practical contributions towards community cohesion. Community workers in voluntary and statutory organisations have this forum available to them to reach Black and Ethnic Minority members (BME). We hope they will use it effectively. This programme is supported by the Community Champions Fund, administered by COVER.
Kids on the Ball
- Our footballing kids and volunteers
This programme gives training to children from diverse backgrounds age 8 to 19 years.
The training is given every two weeks from 11 AM to 1 PM. The pitch is at Earlham High School near the Five Ways roundabout in Norwich. The programme is funded by the Local Community Fund.
Parents and Children Advisory Services
This is a new programme backed by the NACA and initially funded by the Norwich Learning City Network.
