Norwich & Norfolk Racial Equality Council

In partnership with Norfolk Black History Month

Aims and objectives

NNREC is a locally-based charity with the following aims as set out in the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000:

  • To eliminate unlawful racial discrimination
  • To promote equality of opportunity, and
  • To promote good relations between persons of different racial groups

NNREC is an independent charity covering the entire county of Norfolk, that works closely and in partnership with local, regional and national statutory and voluntary bodies to address issues of inequality and discrimination.

We have been coordinating Norfolk Black History Month since it’s inception in 2003. We see Black History Month as a unique opportunity for individuals and groups of all ages and ethnicities to come together and celebrate the diversity of our county. Perhaps more importantly, it is also an opportunity for everyone to uncover the amazing heritage of Black people and discover the achievements and contributions that Black people have made locally and worldwide.

We are extremely grateful for the efforts of the individuals and groups that make up the Norfolk Black History Month Steering Group. The vast majority of members give up their time on a voluntary basis and we would not have such an exciting programme of events without them.
