Marcus Garvey (1887–1940)

Marcus Garvey

A key figure in highlighting and fighting anti-colonial and anti-racist struggles.

He lived mainly in Kingston, Jamaica, New York and spent time in London where he studied and worked for the first Black newspaper in Britain.

He encouraged ordinary people to organise for their own liberation, emphasising unity and giving practical help.
